About Bob McKechnie

Bob McKechnie is a writer, educator and counselor.  He has spent much of his professional life in public education, most of it at the secondary and university level.  After spending four years working as a journalist, he taught English and journalism for twelve years at a high school in Walnut Creek, California.  He then worked for nearly nine years in administrative support positions at San Francisco State University.  After that he served as a secondary counselor at Coachella Valley Unified School District near Palm Springs.

The Coachella Valley experience was a turning point.  For the first time Mr. McKechnie worked with many students and families who faced  significant poverty in a community plagued by serious social problems.  Mr. McKechnie served with a group of other middle school educators framing and writing the federal grant that brought school-wide Title One funds to the school site.  He then transferred to a high school near the Salton Sea, where he served as counselor for more students and families, again people in poverty.  There he started to write grants for the expansion of programs that couldn’t be financed by the school district.

Mr. McKechnie concentrates his grant-writing efforts on educational institutions. He also writes grants to develop funding for organizations that deal with poverty, food insecurity, and homelessness.

Mr. McKechnie remains clear about the idea that everything will fall into place at the right time in the right way.  Struggle is unnecessary. Progress welcomes our embrace.
